The 40-week, full-time community-based internship begins each year in September and ends in June. A one-week orientation prepares the selected eight dietetic interns for the experiences ahead. The interns pay $6,500 in tuition and complete over 1,200 hours of supervised-practice experience working under registered dietitians and other preceptors.
In addition to clinical medical nutrition therapy (MNT) and food service administration rotations, community nutrition rotations include outpatient, long-term care, child development, WIC, community nutrition administration and migrant/homeless services. Some services are completed at Sea Mar sites. Applying for our internship remains very competitive. Annually, we receive many more applications than there are positions available.
To graduate, interns must pass each rotation, and complete all assignments, projects and required work as determined by the program director. Those who meet the requirements earn 800 out of 1,000 points, and a 3.0 or higher average on all evaluations.
