Sea Mar Community Health Center’s Family Practice Residency began in 1987 in collaboration with Providence Family Medicine Residency. The residency program is located at Sea Mar’s medical clinic in the South Park neighborhood of Seattle.
The goal in 1987 was to demonstrate that a collaborative effort between a community health center and an established residency program could provide an outstanding training experience for residents of family medicine. The goal remains the same today.
Sea Mar’s residency program is intended to address and remedy the shortage of high-quality family physicians in community health centers by graduating residents who will practice and become leaders in similar clinical settings.
Sea Mar, while serving all populations, takes pride in specializing in services to Latino families, many of whom are native Spanish speakers and have limited or no English speaking abilities. Thus, Sea Mar’s residency is ideal for medical students who are bicultural and proficient in English and Spanish. Residents are trained to provide high quality service to people of diverse ethnic/racial backgrounds and ages, and a broad spectrum of medical conditions.
All “in-hospital” rotations for Sea Mar and Cherry Hill Residents are the same, while the ambulatory clinic experience occurs at Sea Mar Community Health Center for the Sea Mar Residents.
