Julia Scherting, MS, LMHCA began working at Sea Mar's Behavioral Health Clinic in August 2020. She completed her undergraduate degree in Therapeutic Recreation at WWU. After working for three years as a Recreation Therapist/Yoga Instructor in inpatient psychiatric settings where she led therapeutic groups for individuals ranging from adolescents to older adults, she decided to return to WWU to complete a master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

As a Mental Health Therapist, Julia strives to create a safe space for individuals to feel heard and to strengthen their overall health/well-being. She appreciates the opportunity to work in an integrated healthcare setting as this allows an individual's providers to collaborate and provide holistic care. Julia works with her clients acknowledging their life experience in the context of their larger system, focusing on their strengths, values, and interests as a part of building resilience, and she ultimately sees her role of a therapist as a privilege to be a fellow traveler on their path towards healing and growing. She often takes an approach with her clients that focuses on finding a balance between acceptance and change while navigating life's challenges and opportunities.

Julia enjoys living in the Pacific Northwest and is often out in nature with her dog, snowboarding, playing soccer, practicing yoga, and enjoying local coffee shops on rainy days.
