Sea Mar International Medical Graduate (IMG) Clinical Experience Program

Overview

The Sea Mar IMG Clinical Experience Program is an intensive 12-month program that aims to develop the skills necessary to become a successful resident in the United States medical system. To accomplish this, our team has developed a rigorous program that will deliver a core curriculum with commitment to the following educational principles:

  • ● Intensive, continual exposure to the primary care clinical setting under the supervision of family physicians

  • ● Continual assessment and feedback

  • ● Rigorous training curriculum focused on expanding breadth and depth of medical knowledge

  • ● This experience is focused on training individuals to be outpatient general primary care practitioners, not specialists

The IMG Clinical Experience Program aims to support your successful application to and participation in a US residency program that leads to practicing primary care in the State of Washington. Your participation in our program does not guarantee that you will enter a residency program. You still must independently match.

Skills and Experience

Training will be based in a Sea Mar Community Health Center setting. Each trainee will be assigned to a supervising family physician in one of four home clinic sites: Sea Mar Marysville Medical, Sea Mar Lynnwood Medical Center, Sea Mar Tacoma Cushman Medical Center, or Sea Mar Vancouver Delaware Medical Center. The majority of the training is anticipated to occur at a trainee’s respective home clinic.

This one-year experience will be a combination of clinical and academic activity. Trainees will typically have six half-day supervised clinic sessions during the week. When trainees are not scheduled to be in clinic, they will be following up on patients in EPIC (reviewing lab results, consultation notes, calling them etc.), reading on clinical conditions encountered in clinic, studying for exams, and other assigned materials.
