Sarah Roemer began practicing as an Integrated Mental Health Therapist at SeaMar in February of 2020. Before coming to SeaMar, Sarah completed her Bachelor of Science in Rehabilitation at Emporia State University in Kansas. In 2019 she completed her Master of Education in Counseling at Boston University with a focus on Child and Adolescent Mental Health. Her graduate clinical internship was in outpatient and emergency services with Aspire Health Alliance in Massachusetts.
She worked as a Community Organizer for Tacoma Community House from 2014 to 2016, between education programs. Stemming from her time in advocacy with TCH, she became focused on trauma research during graduate school and studied the relationship between adult mental health diagnosis and adverse childhood experiences (as defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention).
Sarah's clinical orientation is humanistic. She is a solution-focused and trauma informed CBT therapist. When working with patients she prefers to begin with an understanding of the individual's trauma history, provide emotional validation, and teach patients about their brain's process so they can better understand their symptoms.
Sarah lives with her husband and Cairn/Scottish terrier mix in Tacoma. They enjoy hiking, kayaking, camping, and hope to backpack the Wonderland trail one day.
