Medical Education at Sea Mar CHC

RESIDENCY PROGRAMS
Sea Mar is committed to graduate medical education. The mission of the Department of Medical Education is to train and graduate skilled family medicine providers who are committed to the underserved and vulnerable and will serve those communities throughout their careers.

It is our hope that Sea Mar graduates will continue to work in Community Health Centers such as Sea Mar. All of our GME programs emphasize interdisciplinary medicine and patient-centered, culturally competent care, with exposure to medically and socially complex patients.

Sea Mar Seattle Site of the Swedish Family Medicine Residency at Cherry Hill:

Sea Mar Seattle's Family Medicine Residency site began in 1987 in collaboration with the Providence Family Medicine (now Swedish Cherry Hill) Residency.
The Seattle clinic is a satellite site of the main program, the Swedish Family Medicine Residency at Cherry Hill.
The goal in 1987 was to demonstrate that a collaborative effort between a Community Health Center and an established residency program could provide an outstanding training experience for Family Medicine residents.
Sea Mar and Swedish have been very successful at recruiting residents who desire to work with a multicultural, Latino rich community and continue to serve underserved populations in CHC settings as they continue their careers.

Sea Mar Nurse Practitioner Residency:

The Sea Mar Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) Residency program welcomed its first two residents in October of 2015. After expanding in 2019 and 2020, the Family Nurse Practitioner Residency program trains 10 residents each year at three different Sea Mar clinic sites: Lynnwood, Seattle, and Tacoma. In October 2023, Sea Mar will welcome its first two psychiatric nurse practitioner residents in Vancouver, WA.

The Sea Mar Nurse Practitioner Residency program aims to further enhance and develop the clinical skills, resiliency, and confidence of new family nurse practitioners and psychiatric nurse practitioners to prepare them for the complexities and rigors of working within Federally Qualified Health Centers, adhering closely to the mission and values of the Sea Mar Organization in providing comprehensive, holistic, culturally competent, and patient-centered care.

Sea Mar Family Medicine Obstetrics Fellowship

The Sea Mar Family Medicine Obstetrics Fellowship is a partnership between Sea Mar Community Health Centers and Providence Regional Medical Center Everett Obstetrics and Gynecology department. 53 weeks in length, this experience is focused on high-risk and surgical obstetrics while maintaining family medicine continuity clinic skills with two fellows per year.
