Shakira Cruz began working at Sea Mar’s Seattle Behavioral Health clinic in July 2016. Prior to joining Sea Mar, Shakira provided outpatient psychotherapy to individuals and groups in Boston, MA. Shakira also has extensive experience working with Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) survivors of partner abuse, sexual violence, and hate violence as a therapist and advocate.

Shakira holds a master's degree in social work with a focus on the intersections of physical and mental health from Salem State University; and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with minors in Sociology and Women's Studies from Wheaton College. Shakira is a member of Psi Chi International Honor Society, Phi Alpha Honor Society and the National Association of Social Workers (NASW). Shakira is currently a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Work Associate (LICSWA) in Washington State.

Shakira has a passion for supporting individuals in their journeys to healing and wellness. Taking an intersectional and strengths-based approach that is grounded in the unique experiences of each individual. Shakira draws on various techniques including cognitive-behavioral therapy, trauma-focused treatment, psycho-education and liberation health theory.

When not working, Shakira enjoys spending time with family and friends, biking, hiking and engaging in community activism.
