Dr. Assiatu Bah is a recent transplant to the Pacific Northwest from Texas, where she spent 19 years in after emigrating to the U.S. from Sierra Leone. She obtained her undergraduate and graduate degree in Biology from The University of Texas at Arlington, and went on to pursue her medical degree from UT-Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, becoming the first in her family of 21 children to go to college. Therefore, it was no surprise that she chose Family Medicine (FM) as a specialty as she continued her training at one of the largest Family Medicine Residency programs in the nation, John Peter Smith Family Medicine Residency.

Dr. Bah believes in caring for the underserved and socioeconomically disadvantaged. During her training, she worked with refugees from different parts of world. She also enjoyed working with women and children and she decided to add an extra year of training to focus on advanced surgical maternity care during her residency at JPS. She joins the Sea Mar family in Washington at the Des Moines clinic to continue in the tradition of caring for patients from diverse communities.

In her spare time, Dr. Bah enjoys spending time with her friends and family, the outdoors, her dog (Buddy) on runs, and traveling to explore different cultures. Additionally, she is an avid podcast listener, and does not pass any opportunity to get on the dance floor.
