Preventive Health Services

WIC is a supplemental food and nutrition/breastfeeding education program that helps pregnant women, new mothers and young children eat well, learn about nutrition and breastfeeding and stay healthy.

WIC is based on income guidelines, which is defined by less than 185% of the Federal Poverty Level. WIC clients must live in Washington State and be either a pregnant, post-partum, breastfeeding woman, an infant or child up to 5 years of age. WIC is free to all who qualify and is a voluntary service.

We provide nutrition and breastfeeding counseling, checks for nutritious foods, and assistance with referrals to needed services for low-income women, infants and children through the Special Supplemental Food Program popularly known as WIC.
We weigh and measure clients and do a hemoglobin test to check iron status. We have lots of written information in English, Spanish, and Russian.

WIC offers classes and one-on-one counseling to help moms get breastfeeding off to a good start. If problems arise, we provide further support, education, and can give or loan them a manual or electric breast pump depending upon the situation.

WIC is not an emergency food service; we provide only supplemental food. The foods that clients are able to get are limited and the amounts are based upon if they are a woman or a child.
